Sea Trout Details

With current EA Regulations NO SALMON may be taken before 16th June.

It is therefore important to recognise the differences between Salmon & Sea Trout. Sea Trout can be taken between 31st March and 17th October on most Rivers however by-laws should be checked prior to fishing.

The chart below highlights the most apparent differences between the two species.

Sea Trout differences, If you are in any doubt with a fish caught prior to the 16th June then RETURN your fish!!!!

Sea trout generally spawn each year of their adult lives and may return to the river many times. On each return migration they will have put on typically two pounds (1kg) or more. The fastest growing sea trout in Wales are believed to be those on the western rivers, including the Towy and the Teifi.
