Coach for Hire
DANNY WILLIAMSON is both a PAA and NFA coach covering general coarse and sea fishing, from boat or shore.
He believes that the trade – and tackle shops in particular– could do more to support the work of coaches from both the PAA and NFA.
As a keen, and successful, angler he became involved in coaching at a local school and now also works with angling clubs in the area.
In 2000 he qualified as one of the first 10 Level 2 angling coaches in the country before becoming senior NFA coach for the region two years later.
For the past four years he has also been working with the Environment Agency (EA) arranging angling participation days across the area, and last year introduced more than 1,500 people to the sport with more events planned for 2006.
He now feels it’s time the industry became more involved and said: “It would be nice to see a little more interest and help from tackle manufacturers and shops when it comes to the roots of angling. Danny Williamson Coach for hire “Although bait is normally supplied by the EA or the host club on taster days, most coaches have to fund their own tackle, which includes any extra bait or terminal tackle and, as these events are free, we are always out of pocket.
“I have been wanting to expand my taster days to include a classroom/question area where a coach will be demonstrating the rudiments: making up terminal tackle, hook tying, knots, groundbait and mixing, elasticating whips and poles – including the pupil taking away a complete rig or whip – and so on, all free of charge.
What I really need is a sponsor willing to give a supply of terminal tackle and groundbait for us to use and give away at these events, and, of course, the sponsor would also benefit by the use and distribution of its products.
